For many people, the first signs of aging begin around their eyes. You may notice puffiness under your eyes, wrinkles around your eyes, or heavy, droopy upper eyelids. You may feel you look tired, sad, or angry when you are not. Cosmetic eyelid surgery can remove the excess fat and drooping skin of the upper eyelids, minimize the fullness under the eyes, and tighten the lower eyelids.

Eyelid surgery is a day surgery procedure. On the upper lid, the incision is placed within the natural crease of the eyelid and extends from the inside corner to slightly beyond the outside corner of the eye into the smile lines. Excess skin and fat is removed and the incision line is camouflaged when healed since it follows the natural contour of the upper eyelid.  With lower eyelid surgery, the incision is concealed just below the lower lashes or inside the eyelid. Excess fat and skin is removed and the incision is sutured closed to give a smooth, natural appearance.


You will be sedated or may go to sleep for the eyelid surgery. Afterwards your eyes will be a little swollen and bruised. Eye drops and ointment will also be prescribed for eye lubrication. Sutures are removed four to five days after your eyelid surgery and you may wear make up around your eyes two days after the sutures are removed. The skin around the eyes is thin and bruises easily. You may have some bruising last for ten to fourteen days, but it can be camouflaged with make up. All your usual daily activities will be resumed one to two weeks after surgery and you will be able to enjoy your fresher, younger appearance. Strenuous exercise can be resumed in four weeks.
